I think the first time I used a camera was on my 8th grade trip to Washington DC. I remember bringing home 13 rolls of film and dropping them into my mother’s hands and saying, "How do I get these developed?" $75 later I had what I wanted. Thankfully, the digital revolution has made my exploration of photography much easier... and cheaper. I adopted a Canon G3 from my grandfather and took it with me everywhere from college parties to Europe backpacking. Several years later my grandfather suggested I invest in something a little nicer, and that’s when I started saving. Today I shoot with mostly Canon gear following my grandfather’s loyalty to Canon products and his overall impression of quality. If I only had a dime for every time I recommended a Canon purchase to a friend.
My grandfather has been a great inspiration to me. I think it was he that planted the seed after watching slide shows in his basement of his trips to almost every corner of the world. He has been a mentor and a great source of knowledge and encouragement. I send all my best photos to him first.
John Shephard has also played a large part in my passion for photography. He asked me to join him on a shoot near Mt. Rainer one evening. He said we were leaving at 2:00 AM, and I thought he was crazy. Turns out I loved the adventure and got a great photo out of it. I still admire his work and aspire to produce images similar to his.
Currently I am living in San Francisco and am always looking for new opportunities, locations, advice, and friends to shoot with. Cheers!
